Sorry to start the year on a socially and journalistically worthless note. But I thought I'd share this piece of inadvertent filth from the Weekend Herald of January 15 (as brought to my attention by an NBR colleague whom I can't identify, other than that his last name is Gibson and his first name starts with N).
The piece is a profile of Roger's Boatshop founder Roger Arkell.
The offending sentence, on page B21, reads:
"A keen boatie and fisher, Arkell was often found on his beloved Waitemata Harbour, frequently with wife Robyn ..."
But a layout error saw part of the sentence jump to a picture caption position, leaving the reader with:
"A keen boatie and fisher, Arkell was often found on his beloved wife Robyn ...".
Sometimes, you've got to love old media.
And do click on the second picture above to see a delicious marketing #FAIL at Dick Smith, as originally spotted by Sydney-sider Derek Jenkins.
Please give me one million dollars
Lastly, here's a clip from my new hero, small-time US comedian Craig Rowin, who posted a video on YouTube asking a list of millionaires to give him one million dollars (see first clip below). He had no particular plan for the money.
This week, it seems, a millionaire has actually responded to Rowin's request via a notarised letter from his lawyer (see second clip). An onstage handover is promised February 2.
Any billionaires out there who want to give me one billion dollars, by all means contact me at the usual address.
