The Rugby World Cup has brought in record television audiences, with Maori TV the major winner.

The opening ceremony and the live coverage of All Blacks versus Tonga game was the most watched event in New Zealand television history, with cumulative audiences surpassing Tua v Lewis, The Royal Wedding and the 2003 Rugby World Cup Final.

The 18+ cumulative audiences surpassed 1.7 million people, with over 50% of the population tuning in, according to OMD analysis.
