On Friday evening Auckland City Police attended an incident where members of the public saw a man with what appeared to be a gun.

Splinter Cell is published by Ubisoft, and distributed in New Zealand by Monaco Corp, the company that commissioned the stunt.

Police had received several calls from worried members of the public, according to their statement.

Armed Police officers converged on the Viaduct, where they found a marketing company performing a stunt with a plastic gun.

Police consider these type of stunts to be very ill advised and have real concerns that a similar one may one day end in tragedy.

Police are speaking to two men in relation to offences under the Arms Act.

[CORRECTION: AmbientX provided social network marketing around the stunt, and had staff present taking photographs, but was not involved in the stunt itself as originally reported. NBR apologises for the error.]
