McCain Foods is spending $19 million upgrading its Hastings plant.
The upgrade would include enhanced processing equipment, new freezers and additional packing configuration, and new bean processing capability, McCain said today.
Work had started and was expected to finish next year.
McCain Foods Australia/New Zealand managing director Steve Yung said the project would boost production at the plant of peas, beans and carrots to more than 20,000 tonnes a year.
The increased vegetable processing at Hastings would service the domestic market and export to Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
