Prominent property developer Nigel McKenna dodged bankruptcy today, but will be back to fight the matter at a High Court hearing in March.
At the High Court at Auckland this morning, Mr McKenna filed paper opposing a bid by Fletcher Challenge to make him bankrupt over more than $800,000 he owes from the construction of the Holiday Inn in Wellington.
Associate judge Tony Christiansen set down a hearing for Mr McKenna to argue his case on March 21.
Mr McKenna is under siege financially, with creditors from a number of troubled projects associated with his Melview Property Developments taking action to try to get their money back.
Fletcher Construction filed a bankruptcy notice against him nearly a year ago, in November 2009.
The construction company’s lawyer and partner at Simpson Grierson, Graeme Christie, has expressed frustration about the amount of time the bankruptcy process has since been dragged out.
