Colenso BBDO has appointed industry veteran Andy McLeish as head of planning.
Colenso BBDO has appointed industry veteran Andy McLeish as head of planning.
The appointment follows him carrying out the role for the past month and comes after 18 months with the company.
Mr McLeish replaces James Hurman, who left the company earlier this year for Ogilvy China, after four years with the company. He joined Colenso in October 2010 from TBWA Auckland, where he was senior strategic planner, working across clients including ASB, Soveriegn Insurance, The Radio network, Adidas and Mercury Energy.
Prior to that Mr McLeish spent 15 years on the client side in various marketing roles, most recently six years with NZ Lotteries. Over that time he has held a variety of roles from marketing management to strategy, new product development and innovation, finishing as acting marketing director before making the switch to agency.
Mr McLeish will oversee brand planning and look to further integrate digital and customer relationship management into Colenso's core planning strategy.
“For us, the future of advertising is much more general and integrated. Ideas should be able to cross any channel,” he said.
At Colenso this has meant specialist staff working more closely with each other on projects.
The appointment comes at a time of flux for the company, which was ranked 5th in the world in the 2011 Big Won report. It lost the major Vodafone account recently, but gained Bank of New Zealand.
"Andy's appointment highlights the depth of talent within the agency. He has an impressive background and has proven to be a huge asset to Colenso over the past 18 months, so he was the obvious choice for the role.," said Nick Garrett, Colenso BBDO managing director.
"It's been brilliant working with Andy. He's passionate about big ideas and the power of creativity, and has made a huge impression in a small amount of time with our key clients," added Nick Worthington, Colenso BBDO's creative chairman.
