In the wake of MediaWorks axing TV3 shows Sunrise and ASB Business this morning, NBR’s immediate thought was: is Campbell Live next?
Ian Audsley arrived at MediaWorks as executive director of TV in January, effectively replacing departing chief executive Brent Impey.
The hard-nosed Australian’s reputation, earned during his years at Channel Nine, proceeded him.And it wasn’t long before the Herald on Sunday's Matt Nippert was reporting that Mr Audsley had given the Campbell Live a “rark up” and refused to guarantee the show’s future (read TV3 star may face the axe).
This morning, however, Mr Audsley was standing unequivocally by Campbell Live.
“Campbell has done a fantastic job this year improving its performance and its getting very good ratings. It’s gained good audience traction.”
Asked if Campbell Live was safe, Mr Audsley replied “Yes”.
Asked if any other changes to TV3’s schedule were planned, he replied “No”.
Separately, Campbell Live insider pointed to the show’s ratings success this year among viewers aged 18-49.
Ratings figures supplied to NBR by Nielsen confirm Campbell Live has at times been ahead of Close-Up, in this key, advertiser-friendly demographic, if behind its arch rival overall.
The insider held little truck with what he described as the "shitty Sunday paper" report from earlier in the year.
