Exide Australasia managing director John Cowpe said in a statement that Mr Power was being sued in his capacity as the decision maker for permits to export used lead batteries, in particular whether the government failed to meet its obligations under the Basel and Waigani treaties.
A spokesman for Mr Power said he had not seen any legal papers yet and that as far as he was concerned, authority for the decision was held by the Ministry of Economic Development (MED).
He said Mr Power had been informed by the MED that the overseas facilities the lead acid batteries were shipped to had suitable environmental and safety standards.
Exide's lawyers were due to meet with their MED counterparts today, with a view to filing proceedings against Mr Power in the High Court this week.
