Radio New Zealand has reiterated its intention to withdraw from the New Zealand Radio Awards. Private Bin reckons that’s a bit naff.
We’re thinking that if you only have a face good enough for radio, then you should go forth and attempt to get all the possible gongs you are eligible for. The warbler of the airwaves announced last year it would pull the pin on its involvement in the awards… budget cuts, difficult year blah blah.. Money saved from NOT entering will be used to support “core charter requirements.”
Private Bin understands individuals may enter, but only if its in their name and not part of a specific programme.
That’s the spirit Radio New Zealand! While you’re saving a few pennies, your staff are feeling like you don’t care about the effort they put in, the quality of their work or its value to you. And, they are probably right.
Private Bin reckons the misers at RNZ should reconsider.
