The largest client outside Twitter's ownership changes hands.
Word on the street is that TweetDeck, the largest Twitter application not actually owned by Twitter itself, has been sold to UberMedia for about $30 million in cash and stock. TweetDeck is an application that organises tweets and users into handy dandy columns, search lists and more. The company calls it “air traffic control for Twitter”.
The not-yet-confirmed deal was first reported on Friday.
TweetDeck is said to receive about one fifth of the world’s tweets, according to louisgray.com and raised about $5 million from investors in the last two years.
UberMedia now owns several of the top Twitter applications, including its recent acquisition, UberTwitter.
Tweetdeck is NBR's Twittter client of choice for its relatively elegant way of displaying multiple accounts at once, and its reasonably handy mobile version.
However, its recent addition of support for the annoying Deck.ly, which allows for posts of more than 140 characters, is worth about, well, zero dollars.
