Montana, one of New Zealand's founding wine labels, is to change it name to Brancott Estate.
The brand, founded in 1961, is being changed to avoid market confusion in the company's strong US market.
Many North Americans associated Montana Wines with the State of Montana, rather than Marlborough, New Zealand.
The name Marlborough further caused confusion, being associated not with New Zealand wine, but, rather, Marlboro cigarettes.
The name change will be rolled out globally in September and October.
