The demand for high-paid senior executives is on the rise. According to New Zealand jobs-listing website Seek, listings for positions paying more than $100,000 a year are up 30% on last year.

Seek New Zealand general manager Janet Faulding says more job seekers are also searching by salary at the $100,000 and above level. IT and technology jobs have the largest number of high-paying advertised positions.

In the major cities
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the large city of Auckland not only has the largest number of high salary job advertisements – more than double the number in any of the other regions. There has also been a 25% increase in Auckland listings from last year.

Demand for high-level workers is also up in Canterbury – 125% since August last year.

While Wellington total job demand is only up 16%, there is a 98% increase in listings for high-paying jobs in the government and defence sectors.

Ms Faulding says May has proven to be a peak month for top job listings. “Not only was it a top month in 2010, but we noted a 17% increase on last year’s performance.”
