Egypt's president Hosni Mubarak has transferred some powers to his vice president but vowed to stay in power until the September election.
In a televised speech, he did not resign as many had expected, after some earlier media reports suggested the military would take control. The president's speech did nothing to appease the protestors who continue to march against his regime.
CNN reported the translated highlights of the President's speech:
– Mubarak said he has delegated powers to the vice president "in accordance with the constitution."
– Mubarak said that he will "keep his promise" to leave office after new elections are held this fall.
– Mubarak announced that he "will not accept or listen to any foreign interventions or dictations."
– Addressing Egypt's youth, the president vowed that he "will respond to your demands and your voices," and that he has been pained and embarrassed by violence committed against anti-government demonstrators.
