Stuart Nash has ruled himself out of Labour's leadership race.
The great-grandson of former PM Sir Walter Nash scored an upset win to take Napier from National on September 20.
He previously indicated he would not take a tilt at the top job if Andrew Little ran.
Over the weekend, as final results came in, Mr Little indicated he was likely to join Labour's primary.
However, Mr Nash's official line is that he wants to concentrate on turning Napier into a "Labour fortress".
So far, there are two confirmed Labour leader contenders: David Cunliffe and Grant Robertson.
The party's ruling council has yet to set a timetable for the contest.
