Support for the main political parties has barely changed in the last month, according to the latest Roy Morgan New Zealand opinion poll.

The governing National Party's rating in a poll of 882 people in the first few days of this month stood at 49%, unchanged from the poll a month ago while the combined support for the Labour and Green parties remains static at 41.5%. However, the Greens gained a percentage point on Labour, which lost one, to stand at 28.5% and 13% respectively.

"If a New Zealand election were held now, the latest NZ Roy Morgan Poll shows National would be re-elected easily," the pollster said in a statement.

Support for National's governing partners was little changed with the Maori Party down 0.5%  to 1.5% and Act NZ unchanged at 0.5%, while United Future registered 0.5%, having not registered in the November poll. New Zealand First was unchanged at 6%.

Roy Morgan's government confidence rating was down three points to 128.5, with 59%  of New Zealanders saying the country is 'heading in the right direction' compared to 31%  who say New Zealand is 'heading in the wrong direction'.
