NBR sets new date for Car of the Year awards

As the end of the year approaches, the long-list for the annual National Business Review Car of the Year awards is being scrutinised.
This time, however, NBR is introducing a new date for the announcement of its Car of the Year winners – February 27, 2018.
NBR publisher Todd Scott says moving the awards to February makes sense when so many like-minded awards tend to be publicised at the same time.
“We’ve always prided ourselves on being the first to announce our Car of the Year winners for each year in November. But, increasingly, there is more noise much earlier from other publications and outlets, all attempting to do the same thing.
“We value these annual awards and we want to give them clearer air, for the benefit of both our readers and the manufacturers themselves, who take our awards very seriously. Moving our Car of the Year coverage to a part of the year where we can maximise the occasion makes a lot of sense,” he says.
Motoring editor Cameron Officer says there are also other practical considerations for shifting the awards to February.
“Moving to February ensures new vehicle releases for the full calendar year can be evaluated,” he says.
Recent NBR Supreme Car of the Year award-winners include the Volvo XC90 SUV and Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan.
