Kiwibank has chosen its new chief executive from within the bank.
The state-owned bank this morning announced its general manager savings and transactions, Paul Brock, is the new chief executive, replacing Sam Knowles.
Mr Brock was part of the original team that created Kiwibank in 2002 and has held a number of key positions within the bank, including general manager marketing and stepped up to the role of acting chief executive over the last few years.
He previously held managerial positions for Westpac and Trust Bank.
Kiwibank chairman Rt. Hon Jim Bolger said Mr Brock had been chosen from a field of high quality national and international applicants.
“Paul has played a key part in Kiwibank’s success since its creation and has the skill and leadership which will help the bank go from strength to strength and help continue to change the shape of banking in New Zealand,” he said in a statement.
“It is a tribute to the development of the senior management under Sam Knowles that the board of Kiwibank was able with confidence to appoint a top quality internal candidate to drive the next phase of the bank’s growth,” Mr Bolger said.
Mr Brock will assume the role of chief executive immediately, with transitional support from Mr Knowles until the end of the month.
Mr Knowles resigned from Kiwibank in May after ten years in the job.
With no firm plans about next steps for his career, he said he simply wanted a new challenge.
He is a director or trustee of a number of organisations including Trust Power, Te Omanga Hospice and St James Theatre Trust.
