The latest update to Skype adds a Facebook tab, closely integrating the free internet calling service with the social network.
The new Version 5 of Skype for Windows let users to see their Facebook newsfeed, or make calls to Facebook friends who are also Skype users.
US PC World saw a lot of potential in the Facebook-Skype alliance for small businesses who wanted a low/now cost communications hub alternative to those offered by the likes of Cisco and Microsoft (ironically, Facebook is 5% owned by Microsoft).
It especially liked the way that a Facebook friend list can now effectively be used as a Skype address book.
Version 5 also adds a cleaner interface for video chats, and new features for group video calls.
The new group function allows up to 10 people to video chat.
Video calling accounted for approximately 40% of all Skype-to-Skype minutes in the first half of 2010, the company said.
Skype voice calls and video calls are free to other Skype users over the internet. Making a voice call to a traditional landline or mobile number to a costs 4 Euro cents a minute.
