Nufarm Ltd said that it is co-operating with an investigation into the death of a worker at its Laverton North plant yesterday.
Managing director Doug Rathbone said in a statement to NZX that the fatality was a tragedy that had deeply affected employees, who were receiving appropriate support.
The accident would not affect production.
The dead man had been working on an exterior pipeline at the plant when he was sprayed with a toxic chemical used to make weed killer, Australian Associated Press reported.
The 54-year-old man was reported to be exposed to phenol.
