BUSINESSDESK: Learning Infrastructure Partners, a New Zealand construction and architecture and facilities management consortium, has been named as the preferred bidder in the country’s first school property private public partnership.

The consortium is made up of four companies including construction company Hawkins, ASC and PPA architects, and Programme Facility Management. It was one of three consortia short listed with all proposals reviewed by the Ministry of Education, Treasury officials and specialist advisers.

“The exact cost is still being negotiated but it will be less than the public sector comparative,” said Craig Foss, associate Minister of Education. “Having a private partner managing school facilities will give the school boards and teaching staff more time to focus on student learning and achievement.”

The new primary school at Hobsonville Point is scheduled to open at the start of 2013 while the secondary school is due to open at the beginning of 2014.
