If you're up for a fight with your cabbie, boutique Auckland software company Born Digital has has just released an iPhone app called Taxi Fare Checker.
The app enter the flagfall amount and rate per kilometre into your iPhone as the journey starts, and get an accurate check on how much the journey should cost.
Taxi Fare Checker also shows your journey on a map and shows what the best route might have been.
Company founder Brett Hancock says he got the idea for Taxi Fare Checker after some particularly hefty fares in and around Auckland. Around the same time, he read an article about meter fiddling by New York’s Yellow Taxi drivers.
Taxi Fare Checker can be downloaded from the Apple App Store for $1.29.
The app uses the iPhone's GPS for tracking, so should be useable in any location, be it LA, London or Huntly.
A spokeswoman for Born Digital said the app had only been out a couple of weeks, and so far downloads were minimal with no publicity so far.
An Android version is promised in June.
