The 10th annual Deloitte Fast 50 was announced last night at five simultaneous events in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington Christchurch and Dunedin.

The 2010 fastest growing company, with 1897% growth was Telecom Rentals, a Wellington-based technology finance business and fully-owned subsidiary of Telecom.

Second was online retailer Nature Shop with 1106% growth.

And in third place was Christchurch’s Energy Light with growth of 1081%.

To make the 2010 index companies had to achieve growth of 161%.

This was slightly up on the 2009 threshold of 145%.

Growth of at least 523% was required to make the top 10 of the index.

2010 also saw 15 businesses achieve sustainable high-growth by returning to the Fast 50 index, which is supported by NBR.

Touchscreen technology maker NextWindow (now Canadian-owed) made the index for the fifth consecutive year (with increasing growth percentages each time).

Observatory Crest returned for a fourth time and Synlait and Mojo Coffee become third-time companies on the index.
