Geoff Brown, head of market products at NZX, has resigned from the role after eight years with the company.

In a brief statement made this afternoon, NZX said Mr Brown’s resignation was effective from today.

While the NZX did not give any reason for his departure, it said Mr Brown had been a “tireless advocate” for New Zealand companies and an “energetic proponent” of the country’s markets.

It also said his imprint on the first critical phases of NZX’s growth has been considerable.

As part of his role with NZX, Mr Brown was responsible for developing and growing NZX's product set which includes listed products, data products and fund products which are managed by Smartshares, while also managing relationships with NZX participants.

Before joining NZX, Mr Brown worked in London as a research analyst, before returning to New Zealand to work at Jarden & Co, Fay Richwhite and Ord Minnett (now called JP Morgan).

During his eight years at NZX, Mr Brown served as chairman of the Auckland Regional Exchange, an NZSE board member and a member of the NZSE complaints committee.
