A record price for a home in the Bay of Plenty has been set with the sale of a ninth floor penthouse apartment overlooking Mt Maunganui beach for $5.5 million.
The buyerr was Auckland car dealership owner Colin Giltrap, who will use the apartment as a weekend retreat.
Bayleys Mt Maunganui sales consultant Peter Clarke said the sale showed the mount market continued to attract a premium price for top quality residential real estate, despite a generally sluggish residential market.
The four bedroom rooftop suite at the Eleven development has sweeping views of the main beach. The apartment has two lounges, four bathrooms, a rooftop infinity swimming pool, home cinema and basement parking for eight vehicles.
Bayleys Real Estate said the previous record for a residential property in the Bay of Plenty was $3.2 million, paid for an apartment on Marine Parade, Mt Maunganui, in 2004.
The Eleven development has 65 apartments. It was designed and developed by Robert Donald of Auckland. Eleven was built by a joint venture between Dominion Constructors Ltd of Auckland&Marra Construction Ltd of Tauranga.
Two and three bedroom apartments cost from $895,000 to $3.45m.
