Petrol prices have risen again, after falling early last month.

Z Energy has increased its price to 209.9c per litre for regular petrol. The company Twitter account announced the increase this morning.

“Sorry guys, fuel prices increased last nite 3c for petrol & 2c for diesel. We held off as long as we could but have had to bite the bullet.”

BP and Caltex prices are also up to 209.9c.

The spokesperson for Chevron, the company which markets Caltex in New Zealand, Sharon Buckland, told NBR the rise was attributed the rise to fluctuations in the price of refined fuels on the international market.

“The market was moving at the end of last week. We delayed a price increase due to what was going on in the weekend [the beginning of the Rugby World Cup] it seemed like the wrong time to be moving. But [the market] hasn’t come back down, so we’re moving.”

Ms Buckland says the movement of the New Zealand dollar has offset the underlying price change. “It’s protected us somewhat.”

Fuel minnow Gull say they will not increase their prices until this Friday. Their Gull Regular Plus 91 petrol is currently 202.9c per litre at unmanned sites, and 204.9c at manned sites.

Gull retail manager Graham Stirk says the price of a refined barrel of petrol in Singapore fell by $US4 on Monday night (NZ time). "[This is] the lowest price since 23 August, and a significant drop.  This gives Gull the opportunity to evaluate our pricing, and if the current barrel price holds, then perhaps we can drop our prices."
