Harawira has a reduced mandate, Prime Minister John Key said.
Talking to media on the eve of his tip to India, Prime Minister John Key was short on the usual diplomatic congratulation for Te Tai Tokerau byelection winner Hone Harawira.
Mr Key said Mr Harawira was back with a "reduced mandate".
Overall, the byelection, held less than five months from the November 26 general election, was "a waste of time," the prime minister said.
Mr Harawira defected from the government-allied Maori Party to form Mana.
