We posed the question of whether Mondayised public holidays should have a lower pay rate – eg, time-and-a-quarter, instead of time-and-a-half, to lower the cost burden to business.

Businesses seem nonplussed about paying staff higher pay rates on Mondayised public holidays.

If reform goes ahead, and Waitangi Day and Anzac day holidays are transferred to a Monday when they fall on a weekend, it will increase the number of paid public holidays each year.
