Postcard cookies foil export barriers

Cookie Time has launched a global “cookies by post”.

Cookie Time has launched a global “cookies by post” service through New Zealand Post’s international airmail distribution networks.

The Postcard Cookie allows customers to send Cookie Time’s Original Chocolate Chunk Cookie in a postcard style box with a personal message to almost anywhere in the world for only $8.50.

This overcomes a significant export problem, Cookie Time co-owner Guy Pope-Mayell says.

For example, securing entry into the US requires an individual FDA (Food and Drug Administration) prior approval number for each and every cookie.

“We have been fielding international customer demand for many years but finding suitable importers and exporters in a global context, plus managing shelf life for product shipping, have proved to be significant barriers,” Mr Pope-Mayell says.

“The breakthrough was focusing our initiative on one small individual product, effectively creating a small parcel to tap into the NZ Post international airmail pipeline.”

The Postcard Cookie service also enables customers to transact directly via websites. A Postcard Cookie can be sent to any country in the world except Costa Rica and Israel.

Cookie Time is continuing to investigate how to meet food restriction regulations for these countries.
