UPDATE 10.42am: Trade Me's iPhone app is now live, here.
A number of readers have asked if an iPad version is on the way. Trade Me's Paul Ford responded: "Anything's possible, but we'll wait and see what feedback we get from our members on this iPhone one first, before we make a call on next steps on the app building front"
This morning, Trade Me is scheduled to release its first iPhone app (see my am-cam pics above; I'm shopping for a handbag for my wife's birthday, before you ask).
I’ve already had a quick play, loading a pre-release version of the app, but it all looked good. It was quick to log me on, and all the core Trade Me features are present and correct. It looks good, and it’s easy to navigate and seems well thought out.
At times it was a touch slow (a Watch List, in particular, has ground a bit), but that’s always going to be network-dependent.
Look for it on iTunes from around 10am [UPDATE: it's now live].
Huh? Where’s the Windows Phone 7 TradeMe app?
I was confused on one point. Trade Me told me that at this point it was developing for iPhone, and iPhone only.
But wasn’t Microsoft promoting a Trade Me app “coming soon” when it launched Windows Phone 7 here last month?
Trade Me explained this was a third-party app.
It looks good (check out a YouTube demo here), but it’s restricted to browsing the site; you can’t log on and trade. Misleading, Microsofties.
I asked if Trade Me would release apps for Windows Phone 7, BlackBerryOS , Android or one of Nokia’s various OS’s in future. I was told “anything is possible”.
At the moment, there’s an estimated 200,000 iPhones in NZ, while Windows Phone 7’s core user base consists primarily of Ben Gracewood and this guy.
Of course, that will change over time.
Probably.
