Leading trans-Tasman branding agency Principals has bolstered its experience design credentials, hiring Nel Johnson as its new Group Head of Experience Design.
Johnson will join the team in Principals’ Auckland office, alongside head of Brand Strategy Tessa Shaw, Creative Director Jodine Bell and GM Steve Main. He’ll also bring his 20 years of experience to the rapidly expanding experience design teams in Principals’ Sydney and Melbourne offices.
Speaking as he prepared to join Principals, Johnson said, “The opportunity to join this really exciting team in Auckland was too good to pass up. With their strong strategic and design work, there’s a great platform for us to do some incredible work in experience design. I’m looking forward to jumping into it, and giving things a shake on both sides of the Tasman.”
Johnson brings more than 20 years experience in the UK and New Zealand to the role, most recently with Designworks Auckland. He has worked on many of the region’s biggest and most loved brands including Fonterra, Contact Energy, Aotearoa Fisheries, Fletcher, Methven and Silver Fern Farms.
With his background in insight and strategy, creative development and design, content creation and digital marketing, Johnson’s move to Principals signals their commitment to bringing brands to life for their clients.
Principals Group CEO Tom Brigstocke said, “Nel Johnson is going to be a huge asset to our team, and our clients. We share a belief in building stronger relationships between brands and consumers through design-thinking, user-centred design, and creative technologies, so we’re thrilled to have him onboard.”
Since opening in 2012 the Principals New Zealand office has created the New Zealand Story and rebranded Turners & Growers, Kiwi Property, Prime TV and the Waitangi Treaty Grounds.
