John Errington has been appointed as the new chairman of the Remuneration Authority, Labour Minister Kate Wilkinson announced today.
The authority is responsible for setting the rates for pay and allowances for MPs, Ministers, the judiciary, as well as local authority members.
Mr Errington, who is currently a serving member of the authority, has been appointed until 30 June 2012.
Ms Wilkinson said Mr Errington brings valuable experience to the role, in his capacity as a current member of the authority, and as a former partner and practice leader of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
“Mr Errington has extensive experience in pay fixing processes, and I wish him well in leading this small, but important team.”
Mr Errington was appointed as a member of the authority in September last year.
He retired as a partner and actuarial practice leader of PricewaterhouseCoopers in June 2008.
He is a fellow and past president of the NZ Society of Actuaries, a member of the NZ Society of Actuaries Professional Conduct Committee, a past president and life member of the Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce, a member of the NZ Institute of Directors, and previously a director and Audit Committee member of Airways Corporation of NZ.
