Be warned, using the boss' rubbish bin is not a perk of the job.

In late 2008, meat processor Bernard Mathews sacked an employee for disposing of two supermarket shopping bags in non-food skip on the company’s Gisborne factory site.

Chris Puhia has since filed a personal grievance claim with the company, which in turn disputed that it was even filed on time.

The Employment Relations Authority has decided all is good to go and the case will be heard.

Information provided to the ERA stated that Mr Puhia was sacked because he put bags in the non-food bin, although it was not stated what the contents of the bags were.

Whatever was in the bags, “this was held to be an act constituting serious misconduct.”

After eight years employment, you’d think the company would cut the guy a bit of slack. Private Bin can be a bit tough on people sometimes but honestly...

If rubbish disposal was a breach, then surely a stern talking to would have done.
