Samsung has previewed the Galaxy S4 mini - a cut down version of its recently released Galaxy S4 (which the company says sold 10 million in its first month, which would make it the fastest-selling Android ever).
Whereas the fullsize Galaxy S4 has a 5-inch screen, the mini has "only" a 4.3-inch display. NBR puts "only" in inverted commas because that's still a whack larger than the largest Apple handset - the iPhone 5 with its 4-inch touchscreen (NBR is not convinced of the bigger-is-better argument, given anything above the iPhone 4S's 3.5-inches can't be thumbed with one hand).
The mini will share the S4's design but will feature trimmed down hardware, including a less powerful processor and a lower-spec'd rear camera (8 megapixel resolution to the S4's 13mP). See a full head-to-head spec table here.
From the limited preview, it seems a number of the touchless control features - such as air gestures and the ability to pause a video by looking away from the screen - will not be included with the mini. But others have been confirmed, including group play, language translation software and the ability to take a photo that combines images from the front and rear cameras.
Samsung NZ says there are no international or local pricing availability details yet.
