Shoeshine has an old lemon tree in her back garden. While the neighbour's tree was laden with fat yellow orbs, Shoeshine’s listed on one side and its meagre offering looked like limes.

On closer inspection, the trunk was solid but half its branches were rotten and unable to bear fruit.
