Ngai Tahu Tourism has appointed Wayne Paton to lead the ‘Big Reds’ as business manager at Shotover Jet.
Mr Paton first started with Shotover Jet in 1999 as a jetboat driver and since then has advanced to head driver and river operations manager, before taking up the interim business manager position nine months ago.
He has now been appointed to the permanent role.
“Boating is a hobby of mine and I love being able to work outdoors, with an awesome team, meeting visitors from all over the world.”
Mr Paton has worked at Shotover Jet for 15 years, spending a few years away from jetboating while he lived in Christchurch.
“A personal highlight for me was driving the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge when they visited Aotearoa in 2014,” Mr Paton says. “That was a huge event for us.”
Ngai Tahu Tourism general manager jetboat operations Jolanda Cave says it is brilliant to have Mr Paton on board as business manager.
“Wayne’s experience in the jet boating industry is invaluable and he inspires the team not only to do their best job every day, but he also shows that there are amazing career opportunities in the tourism industry.”
