US angel investor Bill Payne joins Sir Stephen Tindall as a second Arch Angel for the Angel Association of New Zealand.
Mr Payne, who has more than 30 years’ experience in angel investing, has received the honour a year after Sir Tindall - the first-ever recipient.
Mr Payne, who earlier this year spent five months in New Zealand advising investors, entrepreneurs and students, has written a book on angel investing called The Definitive Guide to Raising Money from Angels and served as entrepreneur-in-residence at the world's largest foundation devoted to entrepreneurship – Kauffman Foundatio – for 12 years.
Angel Association of New Zealand chairman Phil McCaw said Mr Payne has been assisting New Zealand entrepreneurs for many years.
“Earlier this year, Bill worked extensively with the angel investment community during his five month stay in New Zealand as the BNZ University of Auckland Business School entrepreneur-in-residence.
“He was also elected to the Angel Association New Zealand council and continues to contribute to the New Zealand industry. He will be back in New Zealand early 2011,” said Mr McCaw.
