SkyCity locks striking workers out, requests more negotiations
SkyCity locks out 27 workers after union strike action.
Sky City has locked out 27 union members who took strike action last Saturday.
Sky City spokesman Scott Campbell said the workers who took strike action last Saturday were being locked out until Friday.
He said the company took the move in the hope of bringing the unions back to the negotiating table.
He added that the unions came back seeking an urgent meeting and "we've said absolutely we're open to that".
Unite union members have protested outside Sky City casino in Auckland in the latest chapter in the ongoing pay dispute.
Unite national director Mike Treen said dozens of members of the union and of the Service and Food Workers Union had been told not return to work unless they quit their union and accepted the company's pay offer.
Mr Treen said more than 1000 of SkyCity's 2500 frontline staff were affected by the lockout threat.
He said the unions were seeking a meeting with representatives to try to resolve the dispute.
Negotiations over a new collective agreement broke down late last year.
