Smartphone share in 2015 - IDC's picks
Tough times predicted for some.
Tough times predicted for some.
Market tracker IDC has just released a survey prediction market share, by percent, for smartphone sales worldwide (above).
Like other research outfits, IDC sees Google Android-based handsets extending their lead.
RIM maker BlackBerry is seen relatively stable (as opposed to cratering).
And Apple is seen moving into a solid second - not bad given it has a single model of smartphone against the universe of Androids produced by Samsung, Motorola, LG, Sony Ericsson, HTC, Huawei and others.
IDC's predictions are not so flash for the open source Linux (although some would quibble that Android technically falls into the Linux camp).
Nor for HP's WebOS, Nokia's Symbian or Microsoft's mobile version of Windows.
Nokia and Microsoft are hoping to turn their smartphone fortunes around later this year when the first handsets co-developed under a multi-billion dollar partnership are released.
