Social media monitoring company in $326 million deal

Salesforce.com's new acquisitions' software can be used to track what's being said about a company on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube.

Often it seems there are 10,000 outfits out there offering software that keeps tabs on online chatter about your brand.

Here's one that's cleaned up.

US social network media monitoring software company Radian6 has sold to Salesforce.com in a $US326 million deal.

Radian6 says it can track what's being said about your company on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube.

Dell - whose social networking activiities are overseen by NZ ex-pat and global marketing VP Andy Lark - is a major Radian6 customer.

Salesforce.com sells customer relationship management software, and is regarded as a pioneer in SaaS (software as a service - aka software than runs over the internet).

Could computing commentator Ben Kepes was quick to congratuate Radian6, but sounded a note of caution to NBR.

"Salesforce has long talked-up the new paradigm of socially-engaged businesses who have direct connections with its customers,"; the Diversity.net principal said.

"And Radian6 as one of the more established companies providing enterprise-level social media monitoring is a good fit for Salesforce.com.

"The one questionI have around this deal is whether salesforce can integrate the offering elegantly without bloating their core offering too much."
