BUSINESSDESK: Solid Energy, the state-owned coal miner, has resumed mining operations at the Spring Creek Mine, which was briefly shuttered last month after a series of safety incidents.
Solid Energy has kept all but essential underground operations on hold while it completed investigations into the three incidents.
“A partial resumption of underground mining operations has begun today with on-the-job training in the changes to our work procedures and checking for compliance with those procedures,” said Barry Bragg, chief operating officer at Solid Energy. “We will resume full production once we are satisfied the changes are effective. That is likely to be towards the end of this month."
Bragg said the company is working towards mobilising additional health and safety resources and engineering capability to the mine.
As part of those changes, Craig Smith, general manager underground operations has taken over the role of general manager Spring Creek operations, allowing manager Greg Duncan to focus on improving mine systems.
