Nearly $7 million is riding on the romantic travails of a pub quiz team in the country’s biggest TV drama for next year.

NZ On Air has committed funding for the 13-part drama, Nothing Trivial, from South Pacific Pictures and the writers and producers of Outrageous Fortune and Go Girls.

NZ On Air chief executive Jane Wrightson says the agency has been looking for a quality drama to serve TV One audiences.

“This one has all the credentials. The series deals with matters common to us all – life, love and the pursuit of happiness – in a witty and quintessentially Kiwi way,” she says.

The series has been created by writers Rachel Lang and Gavin Strawhan.

NZ On Air has also committed funding for a return of the Friday night satirical series 7 Days on TV3 and three documentary series for TV One: Surviving Modern Medicine, which reviews the growing use of prescription medicine; Chef on a Mission, where chef Simon Gault looks to provide healthier meals inside some New Zealand institutions; and Keep Calm and Carry On, a guide for new parents presented by impending mother Jaquie Brown.
