Solicitor-General David Collins is among the biggest spenders in the release of credit card expenses of state sector bosses.
He charged up to $70,000 between July 2008 and June this year.
Former New Zealand Food Safety Authority chief executive Andrew McKenzie spent slightly more than that in the same period and Ministry of Research, Science&Technology boss Helen Anderson spent $50,000.
Prime Minister John Key said from what he understood the bulk of spending had been appropriate, but one or two amounts had been repaid.
"But for the most part, it looks like it's been in line with the expectations and guidelines set down by the State Services Commission."
