Auckland Council is seeking a social media monitoring service.

A document placed on GETS (the Government Electronic Tendering Service) calls for bids to monitor the likes of Twittter and Facebook (plus more conventional news channels) for the Super City.

The successful party must be able to "provide up-to-date information on any subject-matter relating to the Council through social media channels."

Anyone who watched social networks erupt amid rail chaos and waterfront over-crowding on World Cup opening day will know this could be one major mission.

And then there's the Twitter commentary that breaks out every time Super Mayor Len Brown busts into a rap.

If you're up for it, responses close October 5.

The tender allows a potential supplier to apply for one, or a number, or all categories (which range from social media to print, radio and TV).
