UPDATE: Soon after this story was posted, the Auckland Council website was taken offline. [Yes, NBR took down the Super City - Editor]. When it reappeared minutes later, the offending provision had been deleted. But it shall live on forever in the screen shot above.
Today the Auckland Transition Authority unveiled a website for the Super City Council, aka the Auckland Council.
What caught Private Bin's eye was the delicious bureaucratic snittyness of the About this Site section.
It includes the provision:
“You may not create links from other websites to this Website* in any way, including deep-linking or use of metatags, except with the prior express written permission of Auckland Council.”
Well excuse us. The government’s open data initiative, as celebrated by Communications Minister Steven Joyce at a conference just this Monday, and that whole web-surfin, sites-linking-to-each-other thing as a whole, doesn’t seem to have dented the super city consciousness.
* Note how only Auckland Council's website - sorry Website - gets a capital letter.
