The government's Electronic Tendering System spat out an interesting EOI last night: Auckland Council is looking for help selling the super mayor's rail vision to "stakeholders."
"The new mayor 'outlined a vision for 'all of Auckland' in his inauguration speech on 1 November 2010," the tender document begins.
To support this vision, the winner will create a "Auckland Plan Rail DVD"/ audio-visual presentation, which:
"Is to incorporate the latest 3D modeling and animation to create a visual journey of the three proposed rail projects in the context of the Auckland Plan:
• The CBD Loop Tunnel,
• Rail to the Airport,
• Rail to the North Shore using the next Waitemata Harbour crossing
"This presentation will be used across a variety of needs from Mayor Len Brown presenting to and addressing key stakeholders and public through to a tool for schools," the tender reads.
Given the prime minister has already refused to provide the extra money that could fund the super mayor's vision, it's probably sensible to throw in that provision that the presentation could be used to amuse students.
And of course, given central government's lack of enthusiasm for funding the Mayor Brown's super vision, it could always be shown to any party willing to buy a super bonds ...
And at the very least, it will keep a few of the nation's 3D animators employed for a bit.
