Politicians and business leaders gathered at Parliament last night to talk paper.

They were there to launch the latest edition of Which Paper – a guide to buying paper from sustainable resources.

National Party MP Nicky Wagner said it was important for people, especially the printing industry, to buy paper from the "good guys."

"This guide is an excellent tool for industry and government departments to use to help make purchasing decisions that are well informed."

The first copy of the guide was published in 2008 and saw paper merchants increase their stock of certified paper from sustainable forests, Ms Wagner said.

Sustainable Business Council chief executive Peter Neilson said there was evidence that firms would shift to buying and acting sustainably when given information.

"How many brands can withstand a customer perception that they don't care?

"Not investing in sustainability will eventually define a company as being out of touch," he said.
