The beachside suburb of Takapuna on Auckland’s North Shore could have more structures springing up, if a new plan change proposal goes through.

North Shore City Council is seeking submissions on planning documents to encourage more terraced houses and apartments.

“Rather than seeking to maintain the existing character of one and two storey stand alone houses, the zone encourages the emergence of a more intensive urban character of predominantly 4‐6 storey,” the draft proposal said.

It focuses on the Anzac St area which runs between Pupuke Rd and Lake Rd with residential, retail and commercial buildings. The proposal outlines that the area remain mostly residential.

Submissions close on November 22.
