Telecom has renewed the spectrum it needs for its mobile network, the last of New Zealand's mobile companies to lock in its bandwidth until 2031.

Telecom, which has about 39 percent of the mobile market, has renewed the 850 megahertz band rights used by its XT network. The rights were due to expire later this year.
“The companies’ renewal of this spectrum through to 2031 means they can make long-term infrastructure investment decisions,” Amy Adams, communication and information technology minister said in a statement. “Over time this will bring New Zealanders better mobile and technology services.”
The government stands to get $150 million dollars from the renewal by the three operators.
Two Degrees Mobile, who has increased its customer base by over 50 percent to 875,656 cellphone users in the past year, signed up for the 900 MHz rights in January.
Vodafone New Zealand, the country’s biggest mobile phone operator with 2.43 million customers, or 45 percent of the market, renewed its rights in 2009.
