Just out of the Apple stable on Tuesday (US time), the iPhone 4S was planned for sale in France on October 14, and later in the month for Italy.
But Samsung has announced it plans to file a preliminary injunction in Milan and Paris, blocking sale of the smartphone.
The company said it will also file preliminary injunctions in other countries after further review.
In a statement released yesterday, the Korean company said the injunction requests would each cite two patent infringements related to wireless communications technology.
"The infringed technology is essential to the reliable functioning of telecom networks and devices and Samsung believes that Apple’s violation as being too severe and that iPhone 4S should be barred from sales."
Samsung said Apple continued to "flagrantly" violate its intellectual property rights, and it would steadfastly protect its intellectual property.
Apple and Samsung have existing patent disputes in Germany and in Australia, the latter of which blocked the sale of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the country. Reuters reported Apple rejected an offer from Samsung to settle this dispute on Tuesday.
Apple and Samsung had sued each other in 10 countries involving more than 20 cases since April, Reuters said.
The patent war is a widespread one; Apple has also sued Motorola and HTC, but was sued by Nokia in 2009.
