The reformatted version of the 1997 film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet has posted the country’s second-highest movie opening ever.
In one day, the historical romance sold $US11.6 million worth of tickets - or roughly 26% of the $US44m the original grossed in China during its entire theatrical run in 1998.
When the film was released in China 14 years ago, it played in only 180 theatres. This time it was screened in 3500.
China has in recent years become one of the leading foreign markets for Hollywood films.
Titanic 3D reeled in just $US17.4m in the United States over the weekend, raising its domestic take to $US25.7m since opening on Wednesday last week.
That lifts the lifetime domestic gross of director James Cameron's mega-hit to $US626.5m.
